Ocean Township/Waretown measures 20.8 square miles and is located between the Barnegat Bay and the Pinelands. Bordering townships are Lacey to the north and Barnegat to the south. There are several housing developments in the area, including 1 adult community, named Greenbriar Oceanaire.
There are a few small retail businesses in town, and a few major retail chains also are in the area. A few marinas, a couple of seafood stores, and a handful of restaurants make up the majority of business in the township.
Some of the area clubs and organizations are the Ocean Township Historical Society, Old Guard, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts.
The township´s school district consists of two elementary schools, housing grades K-6. Since Ocean Township is as sending district, students in grades 7-12 attend Southern Regional School District in Manahawkin.
Many recreational activities abound in Ocean Township. These include four public parks, the Joseph A. Citta Scout Reservation (Boy Scout Camp), and a Community Center. The local Athletic Association and Recreation Department offer various activities throughout the year for all ages.
A few of the activities and events during the year in Ocean Township are the Pine Barrens Jamboree (fall), Founder´s Day, and the Skipper´s Cove Festival of Lights.
